BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION TO IMPROVE THE SELF ADAPTATION Often students with attention deficit disorder and hyperactivity are not autonomous in carrying out class assignments and need constant help. Recommended in this case follow the following guidelines:
1. Set standards for classroom work: eg. work on task, stay in place, completing homework, ...
2. Replay rules often and reinforce the students by fulfilled.
3. Describe the behaviors that are reinforced: follow the teacher's instructions, adhere to the school and individual work, sitting, etc.
4. Describe the objects that will be of extinction and punishment, for example, talk and interfere with the work of peers, get up, do not define tasks and their associated effects.
5. Provide self-employment models
- a. Select the student peers considered relevant and significant to him. B.
- Check that the student observes the model when it persists in carrying out school work and provide approval. C.
- Support the real model with pictures, stories and descriptions of similar behavior.
6. Perform an environmental relocation:
- a. Making changes in the arrangement of the kind and location of the child to avoid distraction. B.
- Disposing of materials and objects relevant to the performance of the proposed tasks.
7. Reschedule homework
- a. Adapt the requirement of the task to their attention span. B.
- Propose in principle easy to solve academic tasks. C.
- Divide the work into tasks short (eg Instead of asking the decision of 10 years and correct in the end, requests the performance of 2 years, correct and reinforce)
- d. Give extra time. E.
- Select eliminating those less important tasks.
8. Reinforce the work done
- a. Establish a token economy system. B.
- Carry a card or a graphic that is self-recording completed tasks. C.
- Remove the program files for social rewards. D.
- Progressively reduce the reinforcement.
9. Strengthening the job well done: award points for quality of work (good point, margin, eat no words ...)
10. Reinforce to students who demonstrate behavior on task.
11. Allow students to work in a single table in the moments that require more concentration (not to raise as punishment).
